Understanding Your New Home's Air Quality

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air can often be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. On average, we spend around 90% of our time indoors. So, it's important to keep our indoor air as clean as possible. Testing for particulates and mold can help us identify if we have a problem, and possibly lead us to a source to help fix the problem.

The most common sources of indoor air pollution include asbestos, carbon monoxide emissions from central heating systems and gas stoves, radon, mold, tobacco smoke and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in household items like disinfectants, air fresheners, paint, carpeting, adhesives, pesticides and wood preservatives.

Common short-term effects of indoor air pollution include dryness and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and skin, headaches, fatigue, shortness of breath, hypersensitivity and allergies, sinus congestion, coughing, sneezing, even dizziness. Recognizing, Testing, and Identifying the problem can help us figure out how to solve these issues, and create a safer healthier environment for you and your family.

Why We Are Different

Safe and Sound Is one of the first home inspection companies in the nation to  partner directly with a Biotech firm who has created an AI that reads microscope scans directly from our office and delivers results in hours not days.

These scans are proven to be more accurate than an average lab by 20% or more, and read an entire slide under a microscope rather than a typical lab process which enlarges 1/3rd of a slide and delivers you results from what was found there.

Additionally traditional lab work requires days to process and touches at least 4 people in the handling process which heightens your risk of a sample being tampered with or damaged. Instead, Safe and sound has one handler who conducts the testing, brings the sample back to the office, and uploads it into the scanner directly saving you days in the process, reducing risk, and ultimately saving you money.

What Can I Expect

One of our qualified home inspection team members will visit the property and take a minimum of 3 samples at our location. The first sample will be an exterior sample which will serve as a baseline for what is already in the air outdoors in this particular area. We then conduct two interior Air Pump tests which pull particulates from the air for a period of five minutes into our sample which has a glass slide on the bottom. We then take that back to our lab, and run the slide through a microscope scanner which uploads the image of particulates to our AI Partner. The entire slide is then analyzed from each sample, and readings and variations are taken and compared to our outdoor sample to determine if there is a heightened level of particulates inside of the home, and if those levels are dangerous or hazardous to us as humans. We then populate that info into a report and deliver that data along with potential hazards and recommended mitigations to you.
